SICKNESS

Please inform Peartree Barn Day Nursery as soon as possible if your child will be unable to attend their session and inform us if it is a potentially infectious condition. Please do not send your child if he/she is unwell.

Peartree Barn Day Nursery will contact Parents/Carers as soon as possible if your child becomes ill. We advise that all parents create an emergency plan in the unlikely event your child becomes unwell during nursery time necessitating that they must be picked up. It is essential that parents keep us updated with any changes to your contact details.

A doctor should confirm that there is no risk of infection and we require 48 clear hours if your child has had a temperature of 100°F/38°C, vomiting or diarrhoea before your child can return to nursery.

In line with advice from the Public Health Agency, we require that any child with a rash be assessed by a doctor before entering the nursery, to ascertain whether their illness presents an infection risk.

We apply the exclusion periods for infectious diseases recommended in the Public Health publication “Guidance on infection control in schools and other childcare settings.” In addition to this, to protect the youngest and most vulnerable within the nursery we observe the following exclusions.

  • Hand, foot and mouth - your child must remain at home for 5 days or until the rash has cleared.

  • Chicken pox - your child must remain at home for 5 days from the onset of the rash or until all spots have scabbed / dried completely.

  • Conjunctivitis - you must seek medical advice to confirm if treatment is required before your child attends nursery. If your child is otherwise well s/he can attend the nursery.

  • Scarlet Fever - your child can return to nursery 48 hours after starting antibiotic treatment providing they are otherwise well enough to attend.

  • Covid-19 - The nursery will follow the most up to date advice and guidance from Public Health with regards to any exclusion periods Peartree Barn Nursery will not routinely administer medicines unless prescribed by a doctor. The Nursery will endeavour to keep Parents/Carers aware of any confirmed cases of communicable diseases.
