The Playgroup Room is that stepping stone towards your child preparing to go to Pre-school or P1. Your child really benefits from interaction with other children of their peer group learning how to respond to other children with different cultures, aspirations, skills and temperament. This equips them for life at school as their personalities blossom.
This room has a reading area where the staff gather the children around in the cosy corner window seat giving an interesting perspective on the outside world. They can often be seen having a dance session led by the staff which helps develop confidence in their own skin and sense of well-being, able to express their personality and emotions without being afraid of the reaction they might receive. The fancy dress clothes rail allows them to act out characters and work professions with their peers and have a giggle.
A child who has the opportunity to experience the performing arts becomes more interesting, expressive and motivated. The emerging focus for playgroup is our ‘Muddy Mondays’, ‘Wellie Wednesdays’ and ‘Fresh air Fridays’. The aim clearly to get the children to enjoy ‘the great outdoors’ through creative play. Sparking the eternal joys of ‘mud kitchens’, hut making and sitting around the campfire singing songs with the occasional ‘smore’ as a treat for their labours. We planted a small woodland of about hundred indigenous trees that the children get to explore and play ‘hide and seek’ amongst the trees and see nature at its best in all seasons.
